Once There Was A Jack, A Charlie and an Alfred Diffusing In Water

Here I am again, people,!!! Let's get ready for the final integrative test!!!This is the video we saw some classes ago to help you understand the relationship between surface area and volume. This is a key concept to understand absorption in every part of our bodies.

So, less talking and more doing!!!
A biologist will show this ratio with an interesting lab experiment

This is the other video about the biochemical implications of this ratio at cell level

Thr great Maxi Cochello designed a home experiment to prove the same point: which absorbs the most, a wiping cloth or a sponge?

I'm also including my  powerpoint presentation on transport IN and OUT of the cells for you to use as a review

TRANSPORT IN CELLS

As you can remember, we discussed that poor Leo Dicaprio died in Titanic because of 1) the loss (=perdida) of heat to the water by a diffusion process and because 2) all the water in his cells froze and the enzymes inside the cells stopped working because of the low temperature...

It was sad, wasn't it? and now, off with the watery romantic eyes and in with the funny stuff.
Shame on you, Rose, you selfish cow!!!

and ... do you remember Rose´s last words in the trailer?

The Mythbusters proved James Cameron WRONG!!!

I have a special 10 for the person that can tell me if Jack could have really gone to the bottom of the ocean or could have floated after dead (with a scientific explanation, of course!!!)

And for the girls only... the moment when heat diffuse from Zac's body into Tess's cold body to save her life...

and now let's get a bit more serious...

(just the information we discussed in class!!!)

And another one from BBC

Study a lot for the test on FRIDAY, November 22nd please, because I wouldn't like this to happen:

Ps: If you feel like making a MUMMY, this is the video explaining how!!!

  1. Jack will float after Rose let him go. This is because in fact he had air in his lungs as he did not die drowning. So with the air on his lungs he will float during a certain time until water enters.
The scientific explanation is that when water enters and fills the lungs, the whole body weights more, maintaining its volume which is the amount of space that a substance or object occupies, or that is enclosed within a container.

  2. Jack would have floated back to the surface because the lungs had air but only until a certain time, as water would begin to enter the body. The scientific explanation of this situation is that it would have floated because the human body consists of 75 to 90 percent water and is the reason why we can float on water. And in fact also, when a large amount of air comes out and too much water enters the lungs, the body becomes denser than water.
